Causes

The most common cause of OSA is the relaxation of the soft palate and uvula (the small tissue hanging at the back of the roof of your mouth). These structures normally hold your tongue forward during sleep, which prevents them from blocking your airway. However, when relaxed, they can fall backwards into your throat, causing you to stop breathing.
